A series of corruption
scandals provoked mass protests in India last year and calls for legislative
reform. Beyond corruption, India begins a new year facing a worrying scenario: stubbornly high inflation,
slowing growth, a mounting fiscal deficit, a falling rupee. This is no time for
policy paralysis yet India seems caught in a crisis of governance that risks
failing to deliver the systemic reforms citizens as well as business and investors
are demanding. The discussion in the next monthly
meeting will focus on the effect of these developments on India’s domestic and
international trajectories. |
